Chairman's Letter to members: Spring 2021
Dear Club Members
With the arrival of Spring, you have no doubt awaited the start of the new Croquet Season with considerable anticipation after the bleak Winter Covid lockdown. I hope this letter finds you safe and well and that the strange period of virtual house arrest has not left you totally deflated.
The commendable rapid advance in giving vaccinations in Wales suggests that we can now look forward to resumption of normal life soon and our First Minister, Mark Drakeford, has just outlined how he intends to begin easing the lockdown rules. Therefore, from Saturday 13th March outdoor sport’s facilities, including croquet lawns will be allowed to reopen, which is very good news. Nevertheless we will need to proceed with caution as the virus is still circulating and the lifting of the restrictions on travel within Wales is not expected before April.
The new croquet lawn at Fairwater has been well cared for by Cardiff Parks through the closed season ; it has been freshly cu t and we are asking for it to be marked up (rotating it through 90 degrees to avoid the worm casts under the conifer !) At the same time we are pressing for use of the toilets which we regard as essential on-site facilities. We nevertheless expect play to start on 1st April and arrangements for play, reflecting numbers, social distancing and sanitization are currently being drafted and will be sent out beforehand
Membership Fees for 2021 will remain at £100 but if you paid a full fee last year will be reduced to £50. Please arrange for payment by cheque or bank transfer to be made to Dave Palser, Club Hon. Treasurer by the end of March to assure club membership which approached its practical limit last season following transfer of play to the extremely popular Fairwater lawn.
Dave’s address and bank details are :-
David Palser ’ Beechwood’, 5 Plymouth Drive, Radyr, CARDIFF CF15 8BL
Llandaff Croquet Club, A/C No 31463969 Sort Code 14-16-30
Arrangements for the Club AGM are deferred until we can hold it’ face to face’ rather than by Zoom and this will, as usual, be followed by a meal at a suitable venue.’ Elgano ‘, Italian restaurant in Cathedral Road is favoured.
So a qualified green light for the season’s commencement, when we shall be able to enjoy sporting play of the most enjoyable classic game in a pleasant and secure location.
Here is to CROQUET !
